Our Family

We are proudly a family owned and operated local indigenous business. In 1986 Betty & Les Groom brought the water taxi business as a sea change The business quickly grew and there two sons John & Alan joined them in the daily operations. A few years later Johns wife Sharon joined their team, and as Betty & Les went into retirement Alan’s wife Tanya came onboard. Over the years as their families grew the John & Sharon and Alan & Tanya’s children have joined their parents in running the business, from weekend juniors, to administration and deck hands on the boats. We have been blessed to be supported by such a wonderful community and our amazing staff who we think of as family.

Meet the Team

  • Katherine

    DECKHAND

    If you have a dog or child theres a good chance Katherine will steal them. The local kids are always excited to see her working. With a love for the ocean Katherine often travels to the Island for a beach day.

  • Chloe

    DECKHAND

    Chloe is a Straddie local living on the island with her partner and son. Chloe has been with us since she was in high school, she is loved and known by many of our local travellers.

  • Christopher

    SKIPPER

    Chris started as a shy junior and we a proud to see him gain his qualifications to become one of our skippers. If you’re looking for a surf spot, be sure to ask Chris. He has lived on the island his whole life and know’s all the best wave breaks.

  • Ashley

    DECKHAND

    Ashley started here as a school kid and went away to start her career. She has recently returned to our team after having her first child. You may spot Ash on the Island catching up with friends and family.

  • Lizzy

    DECKHAND & ADMIN

    You may see Lizzy on the boat or in the office, she will greet you with her cheery smile. Lizzy often enjoys spending time at the beautiful beaches on the Island.

  • Micheal

    BUS DRIVER & ENGINEER

    No matter what we are working on its always a good time with Micheal around. He has an easy going nature and is always up for a chat.

  • Jamee

    Jamee has been with us for 17 years now. She started with us as a teenager and over the years has become a much loved and valued member of our team. You’ll see Jamee driving the bus or helping out in the office.

  • Willy

    BUS DRIVER

    Willy has done his fair share of travel but still enjoys his time in Cleveland. Willy will always greet you with a great big smile and is happy to have a chat anytime.

  • Kailie

    DECKHAND & ADMIN

    Kailie has recently graduated high school and is just getting started working in the family business. Kailie has many skills and talents, one of them being second dan karate. Her most recent adventures include learning to dive.

    Our wonderful skipper Chris is a gentle giant who spends his time off with his beautiful family. He is passionate about all things water & boats and loves to share his knowledge.

    OPERATIONS MANAGER

    After working as a skipper for many years Craig has now taken on a new role as the Operations Manager. Craig has a vast knowledge of the marine industry and is valued member of our team.

  • Stevie

    BUS DRIVER

    Stevie has spent many years working for us as a dedicated bus driver. His passions include camping, travelling and exploring Australia. If you want to get on the right side of Stevie Mars bars are his favourite.

  • Jonno

    SKIPPER

    Jonno is our longest serving Skipper. He loves to fish and will happily chat, ask him about his latest catch.

  • Olivia

    DECKHAND

    Olivia is one of our newer crew members, coming to the marine industry for a change in career. A Redlands Local who’s up for a chat and a good joke.

    Dane is another new crew member also new to the marine industry. Dane enjoys time away with his family.
